How is one being judged if he’s merely sharing or totally bragging? Does it come with the tone? Is it the sense of air in every word that comes out of that person’s mouth? Is it the look of smugness in his face when he’s “sharing” or “bragging” something? Is it the too much information when he talks? Aren’t all of these things I said subjective in the first place? Don’t you think?
We differ, how we see things differ, how we speak differ, our body gestures differ… bottomline: we were all raised differently. What may be bragging for you might be mere sharing for me and the whole room. What might be bragging in my opinion you’d think is ridiculous for you see it as plain sharing. If somebody asks us and we answer it with a 1 word answer, we’re being labeled as aloof but if we share much, we’re now bragging. They say there’s a perfect balance of answering questions or telling things so that it would be neither bragging nor being meek but just sharing.
But who sets the bars between bragging |-------| aloofness?
Who gives the guidelines? Is there any in the first place (research for this). If there is, is this perfect-balance-for-sharing guidelines even universal? Or does it only apply to a certain group. If it only applies to a certain group, then it wouldn’t be a totally effective basis and approach in a room filled with different people, would it? Then these so-so guidelines would be totally pointless to begin with, wouldn’t it? So what the hell?
What made me ask this is the fact that there are times that when somebody shares or felt the need of sharing something, he may share it because he thinks it’s shareable, just plain shareable and nothing more. It’s not always bragging you know. He’s not expecting for a compliment, he’s not expecting people to look at him differently after he tells his tales, he’s not trying to emphasize that he’s awesome or great; he’s not trying to make any point or statement at all but all he wanted was to share because he thinks it might be interesting for you to hear and gives more information than you think is necessary because he’s just like that and he thinks it would make you relate better. Did this possibility ever cross your mind before you judged? Now, the terms “interesting” and “what is necessary” here are subjective as well. So not because somebody’s sharing something which you think is totally irrelevant means he’s already bragging. His intentions may be pure but you’re giving some malicious bone into it just because you don’t find it interesting. If you don’t think it’s interesting then forgive him, if you think it’s too much then perhaps it is but you’re not always right, right? Just don’t jump into the conclusion right away that he’s a braggart of some sort just because the way he “shares” things clashes with your belief on “how” to share them.
Now, I didn’t say there’s no such thing as bragging. I know a lot of brag machines and I know you know a few too. These airheads you know that you just wanna go Mr. Sock-o on them every time they open their high-flying mouth and words, which usually are hyperboles, start to come out. Yeah, I know how you feel. Believe me. As if there’s a part here on earth which don’t breed these egotistical a-holes. *eyeroll*. I may not be the world’s greatest level-headed person with a great sense of judgment but I’m trying to point out that you think before you judge. Who knows? People might think you’re bragging as well when you’re not. Makes sense?
I’m not going all self-righteous in here, just so you know. I’m just “sharing” ;-)
I brag a lot, I share a little and im kidding most of the time,
