A story told to me by my mom: We had a neighbor who had an 8 year old kid and two older sibs. Born at this generation where phones, ipods and digicams mix and merge, he knows how to operate this marvelous innovation invented
by men which is popularly known as a mobile phone and cell phone if you're in the PI. Their dad is working abroad and they communicate ofcourse via text messaging and calls.
One day, their dad called his wife and was bothered a level lower than hysterical and his blood pressure going haywire. This was because of a text he had received from their 8 year old rascal. The husband then forwarded the text to his wife and it read:
"Tay, manugbata si nene." (Dad, nene is about to give birth)
Ofcourse, any father who's away from his family would almost get out of his skin and reach his wit's end with this news because first, her only daughter is giving birth, second the term "manugbata" means it's been going on for around 9months and he didn't even freaking hella know all this time! Whatdya expect?
But you see, the kid's sister had just graduated from college 2 years ago, has a boyfriend but was NEVER ever pregnant in any case at any time. He got a scolding bigtime and was made to say sorry to his dad whom he'd almost caused a heart attack. When asked by his mom why did he text such, without blinking, and an innocent tone he said nonchalantly:
"Kay may boyfriend sya, ti kundi mabata sya." (Because she has a boyfriend,so she will give birth)
It's funny yeah, how a kid can connect this and that. But at 8. He knows the difference between Husband and Wife and Girlfriend and Boyfriend. He is aware that when you are married you have kids. And he's also aware that with girlfriend and boyfriend it isn't err...normal to have kids. Yet, with the media and perhaps a few eavesdropping, he is now associating girlfriend and boyfriend status to child birth. Because he is now used to see and hear that a lot of girlfriends and boyfriends having child. And he might've even coined the word "manugbata" (about to give birth) from a story he overheard. He still knows that having a child while you are "girlfriend-boyfriend" is not right but he thinks that that's what's going on now so he thinks his sister will not be of any difference because he also has a boyfriend.
YOU SEE PEOPLE? Look what you did to pollute this lil kid's thinking for crying out loud!
P.S I'm not saying you shouldn't cater your horns to those who does the deed but ever heard of safe sex and contraceptions? Being a daredevil and a risk-taker is out of the question, not unless you'd "crave" (I'm sure you do) to see those baby bumps in a few months.
